August 7, 2009: CDC’s Latest Report on Nestle Refrigerated Prepackaged Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough

August 13th, 2009

The CDC has issued an updated report on the Nestle recall.  It states that there are presently 70 persons who have been confirmed as being infected with E. coli O157:H7 after eating Nestle Toll House cookie dough.  Although a cookie dough sample collected from the Danville production site was found to be contaminated with E. coli, it did not match the outbreak strain.  However, this confirms that the cookie dough did indeed contain fecal contaminants.

A spokesperson from the FDA stated there may not be a definitive answer as to how the products became contaminated.  Meanwhile, the CDC, the state health departments, and federal regulatory partners are working together in on ongoing investigation.

As for the new cookie dough products to be issued this month, the Nestle website states,

New Nestlé Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products, which are expected to be back on shelves in mid-August, will be easily identifiable.  Shipping cartons will be printed in Nestlé blue to differentiate the new product for retailers, while consumers will be directed to look for a special “New Batch” burst on the packaging.  Packaging for the “New Batch” will also include a reminder to consumers to not consume raw cookie dough, and to use safe food handling procedures.

The Law Firm of Eric H. Weinberg would like to remind consumers that the best way to stay healthy is to follow safe food handling, preparation, and storage practices and above all, stay informed.  Please visit our additional website www.foodpoisoning.com and check the CDC or FDA USDA Recall website for current food and drug recall information.
