April 25, 2010: Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination Leads To Beltex Beef Trim Products Recall

According to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Beltex Corporation, of Fort Worth, Texas, has recalled approximately 135,500 pounds of beef trim products because the beef may be contaminated with the foodborne pathogen E. coli O157:H7.

The following beef trim products are subject to the Beltex recall:

  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF BONELESS NAVEL”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF TRIMMING 50/50″
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF TRACE TRIM”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF COMBO BNLS”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF KIDNEY FAT”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF COMBO TRIM 75/25″
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF COMBO TRIM 85/15″
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF 115A BNLS CHUCK 2PCS”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF TRIMMING 85/15 VAC PACK”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF B-90 TRIMMINGS 91-CTRN”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF COMBO BNLS NAVEL SOAKED AND SALTED”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF TRIM XF SOAKED AND SALTED”
  • Various pound boxes of “FRONTIER MEATS BEEF TRIM REGULAR SOAKED AND SALTED”

FSIS also reported that:

The Each box bears the establishment number “EST. 07041B” inside the USDA mark of inspection on a label. The products were produced on Oct. 28, 2009, Nov. 20, 2009, Feb. 19, 2010, or April 2, 2010, and were distributed to wholesalers and other federal establishments in the States of Georgia, Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.

Initial symptoms of E. coli O157:H7 infection include severe abdominal cramps and watery diarrhea. The diarrhea may become bloody and can lead to dehydration. To learn more please see E. coli Food Poisoning.

March 2, 2010: Randolph Packing Co. Recalls Beef Products

Randolph Packing Co. Inc., an Asheboro, N.C. establishment, is recalling approximately 96,000 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The products subject to recall include:

  • Combo bin packages of “Randolph Packing Co., Inc. BONELESS BEEF.”
  • Combo bin packages of “Randolph Packing Co. Knuckles 90% & 94%.”
  • 30 lbs. boxes of “Beef Ribeye Rolls.”

Each package label bears the establishment number “EST. 6590″ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products were produced on February 25, 2010, and were distributed to federal establishments for further processing in Ill., Mo., N.Y., Ohio, and Va. None of these products are available directly to consumers.

February 2, 2010: Beef Products Recalled Amongst Concerns of E. coli O157:H7

West Missouri Beef, LLC, a Rockville, Mo., establishment, is recalling approximately 14,000 pounds of fresh boneless beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following products are subject to recall:

One combo bin containing approximately 2,000 pounds of fresh boneless beef identified as “75 1-M,” produced on October 26, 2009.

  • One combo bin containing approximately 2,000 pounds of fresh boneless beef identified as “90 3-D,” produced on November 25, 2009.
  • One combo bin containing approximately 2,000 pounds of fresh boneless beef identified as “90 5-D,” produced on November 27, 2009.
  • Combo bins containing approximately 2,000 pounds of fresh boneless beef identified as “90 2-P,” “90 2-R” or “90 2-V,” produced on December 8, 2009.
  • One combo bin containing approximately 2,000 pounds of fresh boneless beef identified as “90 3-E,” produced on January 13, 2010.

Each container is marked with the establishment number “EST. 5821″ inside the USDA mark of inspection. The fresh boneless beef products were distributed to wholesalers in the Chicago, Ill., area.

January 18, 2010: 864,000 Pounds of Beef Products Recalled Amid Concerns of E. Coli

Huntington Meat Packing Inc., a Montebello, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 864,000 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.The problem was discovered during a Food Safety Assessment (FSA) by FSIS personnel. The FSA led to the determination that a further investigation of establishment records was warranted. The investigation is ongoing and the following products are subject to recall.

The following products, consisting of all ground beef products produced by the plant from January 5, 2010 to January 15, 2010, are subject to recall:

 

40 lb. boxes of “Huntington Meats Ground Beef”

40 lb. boxes of “HUNTINGTON MEAT PKG. INC. BEEF GROUND FOR FURTHER PROCESSING”

40 lb. boxes of “BEEF BURRITO FILLING MIX”

10 lb. boxes of “IMPERIAL MEAT CO. GROUND BEEF PATTY”

20 lb. boxes of “IMPERIAL MEAT CO. GROUND BEEF PATTY”

10 lb. boxes of “El Rancho MEAT & PROVISION ALL BEEF PATTIES”

Each box bears the establishment number “EST. 17967″ inside the USDA mark of inspection on a label. The products were produced between January 5, 2010, and January 15, 2010, and were shipped to distribution centers, restaurants, and hotels within the State of California. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact a physician.During a subsequent review of the establishment’s records, FSIS also determined additional products produced and shipped in 2008 to be adulterated because they may have been contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. As a result, the following products produced from February 19, 2008 to May 15, 2008, are subject to recall:

40 lb. boxes of “Huntington Meats Ground Beef”

40 lb. boxes of ” HUNTINGTON MEAT PKG. INC. BEEF GROUND FOR FURTHER PROCESSING”

40 lb. boxes of “BEEF BURRITO FILLING MIX”

Each box bears the establishment number “EST. 17967″ inside the USDA mark of inspection on a label. The products were produced between February 19, 2008, and May 15, 2008, and were shipped to distribution centers, restaurants, and hotels within the State of California.

January 11, 2010: Beef Products From MA Subject to Recall

Adams Farm Slaughterhouse, LLC., an Athol, Mass., establishment, is recalling approximately 2,574 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

This recall was initiated after the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) confirmed a positive ground beef sample for E. coli O157:H7, which it collected during an epidemiological investigation.

Working in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), FSIS determined that there is an association between the ground beef products and an illness in the state of Massachusetts. FSIS is continuing to work with the MDPH on the investigation. Anyone with signs or symptoms of foodborne illness should consult a physician.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 1,025-pounds of “Beef Cuts and Ground” packed for Mazzarese.
  • 697-pounds of “Beef Cuts and Ground” packed for Side Hill Farm.
  • 852-pounds of “Beef Cuts and Ground” packed for Sweet Water Farm.

Each package bears a label with the establishment number “EST. 5497″ inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as the packaging date of “11/11/2009.” The beef products were distributed to private owners on three separate farms in the state of Massachusetts.
